Discoplasty, also known as gel discoplasty (Discogel), is a modern minimally invasive technique used to treat spinal disorders resulting from intervertebral disc degeneration. The intervertebral discs, which are located between the vertebrae, play a key role in shock absorption and spinal stabilization. Each disc consists of an annulus fibrosus and a nucleus pulposus. Disc degeneration occurs when cracks develop in the annulus fibrosus, potentially leading to the formation of a herniated disc.<\/p>\n
Procedure<\/strong><\/p>\n Disc degeneration and herniation often result in pain in the lumbar or cervical spine, as well as in the arms or legs, making treatment necessary to alleviate symptoms.<\/p>\n Discogel discoplasty is a minimally invasive procedure designed to relieve pain and associated symptoms of intervertebral disc degeneration. The procedure typically lasts 15\u201330 minutes. Under fluoroscopic guidance, a needle is inserted into the affected disc at the site of herniation, through which the gel is injected. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, and patients can usually discharge from the hospital after a few hours. Within a few days, most patients are able to resume normal daily activities.<\/p>\n Indications<\/strong><\/p>\n Discogel discoplasty is indicated for patients with degenerative discs in the cervical, thoracic, or lumbar spine that cause pain in the neck, back, arms, legs, or sides, or when there is a risk of neurological compromise, including paralysis.It is not suitable for patients with: Ruptured discs,Active infections and other inflammatory or similar spinal conditions.The results of the procedure are rapidly observable, typically consolidating over approximately 1.5 months.
